Episode 7: Mandy Walker, award-winning cinematographer
Since deciding at age 12 to become a cinematographer, Mandy Walker shot legendary Australian films like Lantana (2001) and Australia (2008), before going on to shoot the recent Hollywood hit, Hidden Figures (2016). We chatted about Mandy's beginnings in the Australian film industry, her move to Los Angeles, and the secret behind the success of Australian cinematographers in Hollywood. Recent Events


  • Australia’s Consul-General Los Angeles, Chelsey Martin, visited Arizona on 4 - 5 December 2017 to strengthen Australia’s commercial and people-to-people links with the state. Highlights included productive meetings with Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton and the Arizona Commerce Authority; exploring opportunities for cooperation with innovators like Arizona State University, the Center for Entrepreneurial Innovation and Galvanize; meeting the Australian owner of Australian Outback Plantation (the biggest Eucalyptus farm in the US); and hosting a 100 Years of Mateship networking reception with alumni from over twenty Australian universities!

  • On Sunday the 14th of January we joined Australian international model Ash Hart for ‘A Mindful Morning’ of yoga, presented by G'Day USA with Swisse Welness and Vie Active at Westfield Century City! Afterwards, participants enjoyed refreshments from Australian brands Longshot Coffee, Beaming and Noosa Yoghurt. It was a fun and restorative day all around, showcasing some of the great Australian products available here in Southern California.


This year marks the 15th anniversary of G’Day USA, Australia’s premier public and economic diplomacy program in the United States! The landmark 2018 program, launched by The Hon Julie Bishop MP, Minister for Foreign Affairs, and the Hon Steven Ciobo MP, Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, includes over 25 events showcasing the best of Australian film, food and wine, education, music, fashion, defense industries and technological innovation across the United States.   • ‘Aussie Collective’ curated by G’Day USA, opened at Westfield Century City on the 5th of January. This uniquely Aussie pop-up space is home to quintessential Australian fashion and lifestyle brands that are expanding their presence in the United States. Through until 28 January 2018, you can find amazing Australian products Elyptol, Gorman, Kirrikin, Swisse, Teamm8, Kip + Co, Incy, MJ Bale, Pared Eyewear, Vie Active and Wild Pony in store.   • To celebrate Australia Day, G’Day USA is partnering with Westfield to present an Australia Day Concert at Westfield Century City! We are thrilled to announce that the star-studded line-up with include Aussie favourites:

Isaiah Firebrace: Winner of  X Factor Australia 2016 and Australian representative at the 2017  Eurovision Song Contest 2017;
Alli Simpson: YouTube sensation and star of Radio Disney show the ‘Alli Simpson Show’; and
Nat Conway: X Factor Australia 2015 contestant and singer of hit single ‘Everybody’s Free’
This free event will take place at the Westfield Century City Atrium from 7.30– 8.30pm on Friday 26th January, and is open to all ages. Don’t miss it!

  • The landmark 15th G’Day USA Gala will be held on 27 January 2018. The Gala is the pre-eminent business networking event for Australia and the US, offering an immersive Australian experience that showcases premium Australian food, wine and entertainment in the United States. For this year’s sold-out Gala, we are excited to announce there will be a posthumous Lifetime Achievement award recognizing Health Ledger’s remarkable legacy; Bruna Papandrea will be honoured with an Outstanding Achievement in Film and TV Award; Margot Robbie will be honoured with an Excellence in Film award; and we will pay tribute to musician and songwriter John Farrar for his Outstanding Contribution to the Arts.

February 2018

  • The Americas Rugby Championships will open with International Rugby Saturday taking place at the StubHub Centre on Saturday 3 February 2018! This year will be a double header, kicking off with a pre-season showcase between the Vodacom Bulls of Pretoria and Cape Town's DHL Stormers, followed by the main match between United States and Argentina.
